A lovely place to stay - characteristic, really relaxing and the beautiful gardens are well-kept. Staff are helpful and friendly. The breakfast was great - plenty of choice and even a selection of gluten-free foods. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a relaxing holiday with a real Sicilian feel to it. A boat ride on the River Ciane is also well worth it.--- Un bellissimo posto - caracteristico, molto rilassante e i giardini sono ben tenuti e bellissimi. Lo Staff è molto disponibile e la colazione è meraviglioso - ci sono anche diversi cibi senza glutine! Abbiamo gia consigliato questo hotel ai nostri amici perchè è veramente bello.
It's only possible to have breakfast there - if you want lunch or dinner the nearest place is the agriturismo Villa Cristina, but we paid 40 euros per person for lunch at Easter and felt that was a bit pricey. Having said that, it was our own fault for not asking the price beforehand! The furniture in the rooms is lovely, but in our room two of the cupboard doors had fallen off. We didn't say anything about it to the staff though because it really wasn't a problem.
The location was really quiet and there were good outdoor seating areas. The breakfast room was beautiful as was the breakfast
We stayed in a block with 3 rooms and there was very little sound insulation between them. The water in the shower was only just warm. Given the remote location the owner could have had more up to date information about places to eat in the evening. He sent us to a pizzeria that was closed.
The location - set amongst blossoming orange and lemon trees - was wonderful. Also, it is only a 3 minute drive from the main road out of Syracuse and well signposted from it. The drive into Syracuse/Ortygia took no more than 20 minutes. And it's only about another 2 minutes from a spar supermarket and the autostrada. So location is really excellent.
The staff were a little reluctant to help at times and English was difficult. Appreciate that we should also have had Italian but when you're travelling, you do generally come across English speaking staff in tourist locations these days.We had a couple of minor grumbles with the room - we ran out of toilet roll because it hadn't been replaced and, like other guests, we were expected to re-use our bath towels for 4 days despite the fact that hotel policy was to change after 3 days and it was hammering down with rain on 2 of these - so very difficult to dry anything. Minor grumbles, but they took the shine off our stay.
Very nicely restored old farm with orange trees all round. Beautiful breakfast hall and good choice of local products. Room nicely decorated in a Sicilian country style with stone carvings. We had a quadruple room with a canopy doublebed on the mezzanine which gave some privacy from the ground floor where our kids stayed.
We liked the quiet countryside setting, it was furnished nicely and Ann Lisa was very helpful in planning day trips.
They turn off the hot water late at night and several times hot water was not available in the morning and evening. Fresh towels are not given out until the fourth day. The towels do not dry in this humid setting. The hotel is understaffed and the staff that is there is overworked and bitter. The owners need to be onsite to help manage the hotel or they need to hirer a manager and more staff.
We enjoyed very peaceful and relaxing stay. All the staff made us feel very welcome.
Beautiful garden surrounded by orange orchard. Best breakfast we had in Sicily !
Funny smell in the bathroom but the rest was great
Very close to Siracusa, yet in a quiet country setting. Room was simple yet pleasant.
The mini-fridge had been unplugged, which may have been responsible for a slight smell in the room. Breakfast had good assortment of breads, olives, tomatoes, etc, but no meat or cheese. Credit card machine was out of order, so come prepared with cash.
Location and the green, silent ambient were great.
We stayed in three different hotels during this trip, unfortunately Villa dei Papiri was the most expensive and the worst! Our room and common places (breakfast room) were uncared. Our bathroom was not well cleaned, hand basin was not drainig sufficiently and there was black stains of mould in both shower and shower curtain. Sheets were not ironed. There was a similar uncare for the breakfast, tea and coffee were served in plastic pitchers, hence they were not hot at all! When I filled my cup I realized the dirt under the pitcher, it was obvious that they were not cleaning them on daily basis. It is really a pitty that such a nice place is managed in an unprofessional way.
